So, you did it. You made the time, maybe even braved being on camera, and put together that YouTube video. Maybe it was full of awesome interview tips, gave a peek into your company’s culture, or broke down a tricky industry trend.

You hit 'publish,' shared the link, and felt pretty proud of yourself—and honestly, you should. Sharing your knowledge like that is no small thing!

But let me ask you this, just between us: How many people do you think actually watched the whole 10 minutes?

And maybe more importantly, are you sure that video is reaching potential candidates where they genuinely spend their time scrolling? Are they settling in for a long YouTube session, or are they more likely catching quick insights on TikTok between meetings, or scanning short video updates on their LinkedIn feed?

Here’s a thought I want to share with you: creating that initial piece of content, like your YouTube video, is absolutely valuable. It’s your foundation. But the real magic, the thing that can seriously multiply your impact without multiplying your workload, happens next.

Every year, I come across a lot of interesting content on YouTube, but making a video that only 100 people watch over the course of a year feels like a waste of time, doesn’t it?

To get the most from your content, it's about adapting it to work across multiple platforms – meeting candidates, clients, and your followers wherever they are, in the format they prefer.

Now, the question is: how do you make that content work harder for you? How do you take that one valuable video and turn it into a multi-platform powerhouse that reaches a wider audience, saves you time, and amplifies your message?

This is where content repurposing becomes a total game-changer for so many people, including me.

How to Get More Views From Old Content

So, what is this magical "content repurposing" I am talking about?

Content repurposing is the process of taking a single piece of valuable content and adapting it into multiple formats to fit different platforms and audiences.

It's not about constantly creating brand-new content but about strategically reusing what you’ve already made to maximize its reach and impact.

Why is This Non-Negotiable for Recruiters Today?

Let's break down why embracing repurposing isn't just a "nice-to-have" but an important strategy for maximizing your impact:

  1. Meet candidates where they actually are: Remember those questions about whether your 10-minute YouTube video is hitting people scrolling TikTok or LinkedIn? Repurposing directly solves this. You take the gold from your video and present it natively on the platforms where your target audience spends their time – whether it's quick video clips, insightful text posts, engaging image quotes, or short audio snippets. This will get people curious to learn more about your content. Think of these bits as a sneak peek of the rest of your work.

  2. Maximize your time investment: Creating that initial video was the heavy lift. Repurposing allows you to multiply the return on that investment exponentially. Instead of one video reaching one audience segment, you leverage that single effort to create multiple touchpoints across various channels, saving you hours compared to creating unique content for each platform.

  3. Cater to Short Attention Spans & Varied Preferences: Let's face it, attention spans are short. While some will watch your full video, many others prefer quick, easily digestible information. Repurposing lets you serve up bite-sized insights (a 60-second tip for Reels/TikTok), professional soundbites (a text post with a key quote for LinkedIn), or visual highlights (an infographic for Instagram/Pinterest). You cater to how people actually consume content today.

  4. Reinforce Your Message & Expertise: Seeing your valuable advice or company insights appear in different formats across multiple platforms builds familiarity and reinforces your credibility. It positions you (and your company) as a consistent, knowledgeable resource in the industry. Consistency builds trust.

  5. Boost Discoverability: More content pieces across more platforms mean more chances for the right candidates (or clients) to find you through search and social algorithms. It widens your digital footprint significantly.

Content repurposing allows you to take the knowledge and effort you've already poured into your primary content (like YouTube) and amplify its reach and impact dramatically, all while being incredibly efficient. It stops your valuable insights from being trapped in one format on one platform and unleashes them across the digital landscape.

This isn’t just about videos—it applies to text too. You can turn articles into LinkedIn posts and so much more. I’ll share my strategy and an AI prompt to help you out at the end of this article.

Why One Size Doesn't Fit All (Platform Personalities)

Think of each social media platform as having its own vibe and audience. What works on YouTube (longer, in-depth content) might not grab attention on TikTok (short, punchy, and engaging). LinkedIn is great for professional insights, while Instagram and TikTok thrive on visuals and trends.

Trying to post the exact same 10-minute video everywhere can lead to crickets... or worse, scrolling thumbs. People use these platforms for different reasons, and they expect content that aligns with those reasons.

  • YouTube is where people go to learn, explore in-depth topics, and find detailed information.

  • TikTok is all about short, entertaining, and often trending videos.

  • Instagram is a visual platform where eye-catching images and videos reign supreme.

  • LinkedIn is the place for professional networking, industry news, and career-related content.

Understanding the nuances of each platform is key to effective content. You need to tailor your message to fit the platform's unique personality and audience expectations.

AI Sidekick: Making Repurposing a Breeze

Technology is here to help you become a content-repurposing pro without pulling all-nighters. You might be thinking, "I'm already stretched thin. How can I possibly add more to my plate?" Well, the good news is, you don't have to.

There are plenty of tools out there that can take your longer videos and turn them into engaging clips tailored for different platforms. These AI-powered tools are like having your own content assistant, helping you boost your reach and impact.

The one I’m using right now is called Taja AI. Since I prefer talking about tools I actually use, let’s dive into this one and see how it works.

How it Works

Just add your YouTube video into Taja AI. It can then help you identify key moments, create short, attention-grabbing edits, and even format them for TikTok's vertical screen, Instagram Reels' fast pace, or LinkedIn's professional feel.

Key features of Taja AI include its ability to automatically optimize video content for search engines by generating SEO-friendly titles, descriptions, and tags, which is particularly beneficial for increasing the discoverability of videos on platforms like YouTube.

For example, if I check out this YouTube video from Indeed, it shows me which words and phrases work best and helps you optimize everything for better performance.

It will also suggest additional titles and rate them based on their performance, allowing me to choose a more effective option if the current one isn’t delivering the desired results.

Taja AI also excels at repurposing long-form videos into shorter, engaging formats such as shorts, clips, and text-based content, making it easy to share videos across multiple platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

This saves you a ton of time and the technical hassle of manually editing and resizing videos for each platform. No more struggling with complex video editing software or spending hours trying to figure out the perfect dimensions for each social media site. It's like having a digital Swiss Army knife for your content.

The one thing I like about Taja AI is its intelligent thumbnail creation capabilities, which allow for designing eye-catching thumbnails that can significantly improve click-through rates and attract more viewers.

Your Content Multiplier

Let's say you have that 10-minute YouTube video on "Top 5 Interview Mistakes." Here's how Taja AI can help:

  • TikTok/Instagram Reels: It can extract short, impactful clips focusing on one mistake at a time (e.g., "Mistake #1: Not Researching the Company"). Add trending music or text overlays for extra engagement. You can create a series of these, each highlighting a different mistake, and drive viewers to your YouTube channel for the full video.

  • LinkedIn: It can pull out a more professionally focused 60-second clip with key takeaways for job seekers, perfect for a quick career tip. You could even generate a short text post summarizing the main points with a link to the full YouTube video.

  • YouTube Shorts: It can create several <60-second highlights from the original video, increasing discoverability within YouTube itself. This allows you to reach a different audience segment that prefers short-form content, while still promoting your longer, more in-depth video.

You're taking one piece of valuable content and turning it into multiple engaging touchpoints across different platforms, reaching a much wider and more diverse audience. You're not just creating more content; you're creating targeted content that speaks directly to the users of each platform.

Multiply Your Reach

You're already creating valuable content. The key is to make that content work smarter, not harder!

By embracing content repurposing, especially with the help of AI tools, you can break free from the time-consuming cycle of constant creation. Instead of starting from scratch every time you want to reach a different audience, you can leverage what you already have and adapt it for various platforms.

Think of your existing video content as a goldmine of potential that can be transformed into a variety of engaging formats. A single YouTube video can become a series of TikToks, a set of Instagram Reels, a LinkedIn article or posts, and multiple YouTube Shorts.

The power is already in your hands – now you have the tools to unleash it.
