One of the best examples of storytelling is SpaceX. They not only have an amazing story to share, but they also maintain a consistent message throughout their entire career page and all social media channels.
They are selling their story through every job advert you can find. And let me tell you, with just a few lines of text, not only will you get their vision but it has this amazing ability to get candidates pumped about the company even before their first interview.
But their storytelling works outside these job ads as well. A prime example of a remarkable display of innovation was when SpaceX launched a Tesla Roadster into space back in 2018.
The Falcon Heavy rocket, carrying a brave dummy driver named "Starman," embarked on an extraordinary journey that captured the imaginations of people worldwide. Such remarkable stories remind us of the endless possibilities that lie beyond our planet.
This event was all over the news for like several days or even weeks, do you know why? Because they have this amazing story to tell, with all these extra details: A mannequin in a spacesuit, dubbed "Starman", occupies the driver's seat. The mannequin was named after the David Bowie song "Starman", and the car's sound system was set before launch to continuously loop the Bowie song "Space Oddity".1
Here's another example of good storytelling: Greyston Bakery in Yonkers. They actually trademarked their untraditional hiring process as "Open Hiring." And get this, they don't ask for résumés, conduct interviews, or even run background checks.
Believe it or not, this hiring policy was created over 40 years ago by Bernie Glassman, and it has become a crucial part of Greyston Bakery's story. People are talking about it, and it's even making headlines.
